Sustainability

IT Motives believes that sustainability is key for our future and the earth we live on. Our love and respect of “mother earth” as Native Americans call it, is in direct correlation to IT Motives being a Native American owned company. In the native world, earth and humans are one in the same and protection of earth is a key component to survival and a good quality of life. Therefore, protecting and loving the natural world is paramount to who we are at IT Motives. We believe it is our duty to be a socially and environmentally responsible company and we are committed to sustainability, as we understand our actions today will impact our communities for generations to come. Sustainability also ties directly back to one of our main core values of long-term relationships. Reduction in fossil fuels usage and greenhouse gas emissions, recycling, and going paperless are all top of the mind for us at IT Motives.

At IT Motives, we are committed to promoting environmental sustainability through responsible practices that help reduce our ecological footprint. We recognize our role in fostering a more sustainable future for both our employees and the communities we serve.

We take pride in integrating sustainability into our daily operations and strive to make a positive impact through the following sustainability policies and practices:

  1. Recycling: We actively encourage and implement recycling practices throughout our office space, ensuring that paper, plastics, electronics, and other recyclable materials are disposed of properly. IT Motives actively participates in local community recycling events, where we recycle difficult to recycle plastic containers, lids, and utensils into reusable material. By promoting the responsible recycling of materials, we aim to minimize waste and reduce the strain on landfills. We also encourage our employees to recycle their items and our company reimburses any costs associated with the effort.
  2. Office Location: We intentionally leased an office that is centrally located, where we are only one block away from a bus stop to encourage the use of public transit. Our office is also within walking distance to local establishments such as coffee, food, banking, grocery stores, and more, so our employees do not have to drive for routine errands or for food and drink.
  3. Work From Home: Our employees do not have to drive to the office on a daily basis as we encourage them to work from home, which helps reduce carbon emissions. We also utilize phone and video interviews (Teams, Zoom, etc.) whenever possible to cut down on driving for our employees and thus further reduce our carbon footprint.
  4. Composting: We support environmentally-conscious waste management by composting all organic materials while in the office. We encourage all employees to participate in composting and aim to divert food waste from landfills, contributing to a healthier planet.
  5. Reusable Water Bottles: As part of our commitment to reducing single-use plastic, we have implemented the use of company-provided reusable water bottles. Employees are encouraged to bring their own reusable bottles to work.
  6. Our Office: We have a smart thermostat in our office, and our kitchen is stocked with reusable glass plates and reusable silverware so our employees don’t have to use disposable products such as plastic plates and plastic silverware. We have an electronic hand dryer in our bathroom to further reduce our usage of paper products.
  7. Paper Light Office: We are a paper light office and company. We conduct our day-to-day business electronically. We receive electronic resumes, submit resumes to clients via email, email our consultants their new hire paperwork electronically (vs. asking them to drive to our office to complete the paperwork), and our time sheets and invoices are electronically submitted. And we encourage our clients to pay our invoices electronically as opposed to sending us a check in the mail. Further, any paper that we do use in our office is shredded and recycled.
  8. Community Cleanups: We proudly participate in community-driven environmental initiatives such as SOLVE, who is an environmental non-profit where volunteers engage in cleaning and restoring neighborhoods and natural areas. We believe in the power of collective action and our team participates in these cleanup efforts with SOLVE, helping to remove litter and preserve natural spaces for future generations. As we participate, our team fosters a sense of environmental responsibility and community connection.
  9. Energy Trust of Oregon: We have a long-term partnership with the Energy Trust of Oregon. If you are not familiar with the Energy Trust of Oregon, they are a mission-based non-profit organization that designs energy solutions that helps conserve energy, save money, and produce clean power. We intentionally sought out the Energy Trust of Oregon as an IT Motives client because we wanted to be part of and support an organization such as the Energy Trust of Oregon.
  10. Thoughtful and Intentional: we previously sponsored a golf hole at the SIM (Society of Information Management) golf tournament and we provided golfers with snacks and drinks, which included buying aluminum recyclable bottles of water vs. buying plastic bottles of water. The aluminum bottles of water cost us significantly more vs. buying plastic bottles of water, but we felt it was the right thing to do for the environment. We are always thinking of ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle.
  11. James Recycling: we are a proud donor to this great organization that runs a robust recycling program. To learn more about them, please visit their website https://jshrecycling.com/.
