Position Summary: The GIS Technician will assist in maintaining, updating, and analyzing geographic data to support municipal projects, planning, and operations. This role involves working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure accurate mapping solutions and effective data management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and update GIS data layers, maps, and databases for municipal use.
  • Conduct spatial analysis and data visualization to support decision-making processes.
  • Collaborate with departments to create interactive web-based maps and applications.
  • Perform quality control checks to ensure data accuracy and consistency.
  • Assist in integrating GIS data with municipal asset management systems.
  • Provide technical support and training to staff on GIS software and tools.
  • Respond to public information requests related to geographic data and mapping.

Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in GIS mapping, analysis, and data management.
  • Proficiency in Esri software suite (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcMap) and related GIS tools.
  • Familiarity with data formats such as shapefiles, geodatabases, and KML/KMZ.
  • Strong understanding of cartographic principles and map design.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with diverse teams.
  • Experience with Python scripting, SQL, or CAD software is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in municipal government or public sector.
  • Knowledge of Washington state geography, land use policies, and environmental regulations.
