Director of Technology

We are an industry-leading eCommerce company and we need to find someone that can step-in and be the right hand person for our Sr. VP of Technology. Reporting to the Sr. VP of Technology, the Director of Technology will have a blend of both business and technical acumen. Some of their responsibilities will include but be limited to: having direct reports and managing other people, working across the enterprise/other departments to bring awareness to new technology projects and how that will positively impact the rest of the business, providing timelines and updates to these key stakeholders, managing KPIs for the entire technology department, assisting with technology budgets, taking a bunch of things off the plate of the Sr. VP of Technology and be the right-hand to this person.

 

The Director of Technology will have direct reports that include the software development, infrastructure, and business intelligence teams. This role will also be a player/coach in that this person will be required to be hands-on from time to time. You would offer skills that allow you to be in the trenches with your team (i.e. working on architecture and design, implementing solutions, etc.). Further, this role will work with Information Security to come up with policies and procedures for the enterprise.

 

Our tech stack has historically been a Microsoft shop although we utilize a wide range of technologies including but not limited to: Microsoft 365, Azure Active Directory, Power BI, NetSuite, MySQL, Linux, Java, PHP, Adobe Creative Cloud, Jira, etc.

 

Duties and Responsibility

 

·       Day to day support of IT systems operations and supervise IT staff members.

·       Assist with SDLC and Change management strategy as it relates to the organization’s IT Applications & Infrastructure. (Computer and information systems, security, communication – collaboration Cloud systems)

·       Develop, manage, and track the IT department’s annual budget.

·       Consult senior-level stakeholders across the entire organization to identify business and technology needs and to optimize the use of information technology.

·       Ensure smooth delivery and operation of IT services by monitoring systems performance.

·       Create policies, procedures, processes and standards for selection, implementation, and support of systems.

·       Provide direction, guidance, and training to IT staff.

·       Assist with IT Team regarding performance development and training plans.

·       Assist with development and implementation processes for the organization’s IT systems.

·       Develops and implements business continuity protocols to minimize disruption to business operations in the event of emergency situations or data loss.

·       Establishes IT KPI standards, providing recommendations for improvement of IT Systems.

·       Analyzes IT infrastructure and systems performance to assess operating costs, productivity levels, upgrade requirements, and other metrics and needs.

·       Assist with IT security audits or investigations.

·       Develops and maintains relationships with external IT vendors and service providers.

·       Performs other related duties as assigned.

Skills required:

·      6+ years of technology leadership experience

·      Experience with a variety technologies and domains: Cloud, On-Prem, ERP, DevOps, BI, InfoSec, etc. (note: we don’t expect you to know all these)

·      A savvy business mindset with the ability to reach across departments and educate your colleagues that technology is a value add to the organization and not a cost center

·      Experience working with smaller technology departments with the ability to roll up your sleeves and do individual contribution work from time to time

·      A background in budgeting, P/L, KPIs, hiring, retention

·      Excellent written and oral communication skills

·      Sound judgment in decision making and problem solving

·      Maintaining the highest level of integrity and always doing the right thing

·      Bonus points if you have a sense of humor with an easy laugh
